You Know Who Makes Me Happy? My Mom.
It’s Mother’s Day! I just wanted to write a short post to tell you all about how amazing my mom is. The illustrated picture is of my mom with Brenna and I at roughly the ages of 9 and 6. I feel like some of my most poignant memories of my mom were at this age. I still remember watching her get ready to go out to dinner with my dad and curling her hair, putting on lipstick and perfume and fancy shoes and being in awe of how beautiful she was (and still is).
You Know What Makes Me Happy? Hamilton
Did you know that Jay and I are looking for a house in Hamilton? And that Hamilton is awesome? YOU CAN DO ANYTHING IN HAMILTON.
I got this tote bag from Russell Gibbs (he keeps bees!), and it’s my new favourite thing. I bring it all over Toronto on my bicycle to shock my fellow locals. For those of you who are not local, everyone in Toronto thinks that Hamilton is a really dirty suburb and everyone in Hamilton thinks that Torontonians are weird arrogant city people who foolishly think Hamilton is a suburb of Toronto.
You Know What Makes Me Happy? Lucy and Mocha
These are Jay’s cats, Lucy (Orange) and Mocha (Calico). They are the most hilarious, personality-full cats I have ever known and I love them to pieces. I love them so much that I don’t even care that Jay loves them more than me. When I confronted him about it, all he said was, “Well…. They are fluffy.”
As I Draw: Roncesvalles Map (Finished!!)
You know what makes me feel awesome? Finishing something, framing it, and sending it out into the world. Or in this case, framing it and walking it down to Gurts where Matt praised it over and over again and is going to sell it to unsuspecting people who come in to buy frozen yogurt.
Of course, this project isn’t REALLY done since I am working on Part 2 (Fern to Geoffrey) pretty much nonstop. I can’t help it. Now that I have gotten started, I am steamrolling ahead.
You Know What Makes Me Happy? Beavers.
I have a soft spot for beavers. I like seeing them on our Canadian nickels. I love that they are this kind of hilarious national animal. I love beaver jokes. I like how their feet look like alien hands. Seriously…. google it. If I ran into one on the street, I would run away, and I like that about them, too. These are not pushovers…. these are some secretly feisty Canadians that cut knock trees down with their teeth.
Little Blue Guy is Overwhelmed
This little dude is overwhelmed by his life. He has too many bills, too many to-do lists, too little time. Coincidentally, me too.
I am going to start taking more time for myself. It’s time to start turning off my electronics at 10:00 so I can sleep like a normal person. It would be even better if I ate proper dinners like the rest of the world. Plus, it would be so nice to just sit down and read sometimes? Reading is one of my absolute favourite things.
Failing at Sleeping
I am terrible at sleeping. I either go too long or too short. I can never find that sweet spot between drooling and dry leather tongue. If I hear any noise, instead of waking up, I talk to it (EMBARRASSING.) I never achieve cute bedhead. Instead, I wake up with a lions mane on one side of my head and strands of spaghetti on the other. I am always either too hot or too cold.
As I Draw: Roncesvalles Map (Part 2)
Plugging away at this! You can see I am working on one block at a time, mostly to save sanity. This is the intersection of Pearson and Roncesvalles in Toronto. I live a few blocks from here! It’s been a really great project so far. I recognize that it’s a huge undertaking and am trying to remember to not become obsessive. So that I can sleep. And eat things. And do my day job.
